The new processor reportedly carries the model number SM8850-1-AB and is expected to deliver benchmark performance close to the standard Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 while offering manufacturers a lower purchase price.
Qualcomm currently offers three versions of the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 platform. The seven-core SM8850-5-AC powers devices such as the Oppo Find N6. While the standard eight-core SM8850-AC appears in smartphones including the OnePlus 15.
An overclocked version, identified as the SM8850-1-AD, is used in flagship devices such as Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold8.
According to the latest leak, the upcoming SM8850-1-AB will support the same core feature set as the existing Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 processors while reducing manufacturing costs.
