Sony Xperia 1 VIII Tipped with Fresh Design Update

ultimateimp – Sony is preparing its upcoming flagship smartphone, the Xperia 1 VIII, with significant design changes compared to previous models. Early leaks suggest the company is moving away from its traditional design language. Sony is likely to officially unveil the device around June 2026, following its usual release cycle.

Sources reportedly discovered these images on the Chinese social platform Weibo and shared them online. While readers should treat such leaks cautiously, some community sources claim the images closely reflect the final product.

One of the most notable changes involves the redesigned rear camera module. Sony is expected to replace its pill-shaped layout with a square module. The company designs this module to accommodate three lenses and an LED flash. The presence of “Zeiss T*” branding shows that Sony continues its collaboration with the optics specialist.

The front of the device also appears to undergo a major redesign. Instead, Sony may introduce a punch-hole cutout for the front-facing camera, creating a more immersive display with reduced bezels and improved screen-to-body ratio.

This shift in design could lead Sony to remove the front-facing stereo speakers. These speakers have long defined Xperia flagships. Their absence suggests the company is prioritizing a more modern display aesthetic while balancing audio performance through alternative speaker placements.

21:9 Display, Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5, and 200 MP Telephoto Camera Expected

The Xperia 1 VIII is rumored to feature a 21:9 aspect ratio display. This change sets it apart from the 19.5:9 ratio used in the previous generation. The wider format may improve multitasking and media viewing experiences. The company reportedly keeps a 3.5 mm headphone jack at the top of the device. It also places the USB-C port and SIM card slot at the bottom.

Sony also includes a dedicated camera shutter button on the right side. This feature has remained a consistent part of Xperia smartphones. Its inclusion highlights the company’s continued focus on photography functionality.

In terms of performance, the device is expected to use the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 processor. This chipset is likely to deliver flagship-level performance across applications. It positions the device competitively within the premium smartphone segment.

Camera upgrades are also anticipated, including a possible 200 MP telephoto sensor. This would represent a major improvement in zoom capabilities and image detail. Combined with Zeiss optics, it could enhance long-range photography.

Although these details provide insight into the Xperia 1 VIII, they remain unconfirmed. Sony has not officially revealed the device or its specifications.
