ultimateimp – Philips Hue has officially introduced four new Essential Strip light products across several European markets. The new smart lighting options expand the brand’s lineup with more affordable models designed for everyday use. These products provide core smart lighting features but with a slightly reduced feature set compared with premium Philips Hue strip lights.
The new range includes four different models. These are the Philips Hue Essential Strip light in 5 meter and 10 meter versions, and the Philips Hue Essential Flex Strip light in the same two lengths. The release confirms earlier sightings of the products at European retailers during February 2026.
One of the strip lights had already appeared in the company’s online store in the United States before the wider European release. The official launch across Europe now makes the new lighting products widely available to consumers interested in entry-level Hue devices.
One example of the reduced functionality involves brightness control. Essential strip lights can dim down to two percent brightness. By comparison, higher-end Philips Hue strip lights can dim as low as 0.2 percent brightness. The difference may affect users seeking extremely subtle lighting adjustments.
Another limitation involves the color blending technology used in the Essential range. The system is slightly less advanced than the technology used in other Hue products. However, the lights still provide customizable colors and smart lighting functionality suitable for many home environments.
Flexible Design Expands Installation Options for Hue Essential Flex Models
The Essential and Essential Flex strip lights differ in both design and installation possibilities. The standard Essential strip lights are designed primarily for straight installations. They work well in areas such as under cabinets, along shelves, or on stair edges.
Such versatility makes the Flex version suitable for decorative lighting projects. Users can shape the strip to follow unusual surfaces or create customized lighting patterns. This added flexibility provides more creative installation possibilities compared with the standard strip lights.
The two product types also differ in their physical dimensions. The standard Essential strip measures about 2.0 millimeters in height and roughly 0.386 millimeters in width. In contrast, the Essential Flex strip measures approximately 13.0 millimeters in height and about 0.256 millimeters in width.
Another distinction involves customization during installation. Neither the Essential nor the Flex strip lights can be extended with additional sections. However, the regular Essential strip lights can be cut to shorter lengths if required.

The flexible version does not support cutting. Instead, it focuses on shape adaptability rather than adjustable length. This design emphasizes flexibility in placement rather than modular expansion.
Philips Hue has also confirmed pricing for the new products in Europe. The Essential Strip Light costs €59.99 for the 5 meter version and €99.99 for the 10 meter version. The Essential Flex Strip light is priced higher due to its flexible design.
The 5 meter Essential Flex Strip light costs €99.99, while the 10 meter model costs €169.99. With these additions, Philips Hue continues expanding its smart lighting range to serve both budget-conscious users and those seeking advanced lighting customization.
