ultimateimp – Xiaomi has confirmed that its upcoming Xiaomi 18 Pro series will feature a dual 200MP Leica camera system on the rear. The company has also revealed camera samples to showcase the photography capabilities of its next flagship smartphones.
Xiaomi recently announced that its new flagship smartphone lineup will launch in China on September 23, 2026. The initial lineup is expected to include three models, with two devices positioned within the Pro series.
The company has now confirmed several details about the camera hardware. Both Xiaomi 18 Pro models will feature two 200MP rear cameras, including a primary sensor and a telephoto camera.

The main camera will use a large 1/1.28-inch sensor. Xiaomi has not revealed every specification of the sensor yet, but its large physical size could help the camera capture more light and preserve detail in challenging lighting conditions.
Meanwhile, the second 200MP sensor will serve as the telephoto camera. It uses a 1/1.56-inch sensor and offers a 75mm-equivalent focal length. The camera also supports 3.2x optical zoom.
This represents a different approach compared with the previous Xiaomi 17 Pro series. The older models use a 50MP periscope telephoto camera with a longer 115mm focal length and 5x optical zoom.
The shorter 75mm focal length on the upcoming Xiaomi 18 Pro series should make the telephoto camera more suitable for portraits and shorter-range zoom photography. It can also provide a different perspective compared with the longer telephoto system found on the previous generation.
200MP Telephoto Camera Gets a Wider Aperture
Another notable upgrade comes from the telephoto lens itself. Xiaomi has confirmed that the 200MP telephoto camera features an f/2.4 aperture.
That is wider than the f/3.0 aperture used by the previous-generation telephoto system. A wider aperture can allow more light to reach the sensor, which may help improve image quality in darker environments.
The combination of a relatively large 1/1.56-inch sensor, 200MP resolution and an f/2.4 aperture gives the new telephoto camera a substantial hardware upgrade. Its 75mm focal length could also help produce stronger subject separation when shooting portraits.
Xiaomi has already shared several camera samples captured with the new 200MP Leica system. The company has showcased images from both the primary and telephoto cameras.
The samples demonstrate strong color reproduction, a broad dynamic range and reasonable performance in low-light scenes. Details also appear well preserved in the images provided by the company.
However, these samples should be viewed with some caution because they were produced and selected by Xiaomi. Manufacturer-provided images typically represent controlled demonstrations rather than independent camera testing.
