Anbernic Updates RG Vita Pro With Themes and Features

ultimateimp – Anbernic has rolled out a new Linux software update for the RG Vita Pro, introducing visual enhancements and system-level improvements to its PlayStation Vita-inspired handheld. The update, labeled Linux V1.0.1, arrives less than a month after the company released an update for the device’s Android operating system.

The RG Vita Pro supports dual-boot functionality, allowing users to switch between Android and Linux. While the previous update focused on Android, the latest release targets the Linux partition and introduces several quality-of-life improvements.

One of the most practical additions is a new Screen Timeout option within the System Settings menu. The feature allows users to control how long the display remains active before automatically turning off.

Anbernic has also added a dedicated shutdown icon to simplify powering off the device. Meanwhile, the company has updated the System Rescue feature by introducing a confirmation step, helping users avoid accidental recovery actions.

The App Manager has also received updates, although Anbernic has not disclosed the exact changes included in the revision. In addition, the company has redesigned the button test menu, which users can now access directly from the App Center.

The updated button test interface provides a more modern appearance and makes it easier for users to verify the functionality of the handheld’s controls. This feature can be particularly useful for troubleshooting or checking hardware performance after software updates.

Anbernic has also expanded the capabilities of several preinstalled emulators. According to the official changelog, users can now open emulator menus while playing games on Dreamcast, Sega Saturn, and Nintendo 3DS emulators.

This improvement allows players to access settings, save states, and other options without exiting gameplay. The change enhances convenience and brings the Linux experience closer to dedicated retro gaming operating systems.

The release of Linux V1.0.1 demonstrates Anbernic’s continued support for the RG Vita Pro. Frequent software updates have become an important factor in the retro handheld market, where users expect ongoing improvements after launch.

Aurora and Vita Themes Give RG Vita Pro a Fresh New Look

The most noticeable addition in the new update is the introduction of two new user interface themes named Aurora and Vita. These themes provide alternatives to the default interface that ships with the RG Vita Pro.

Aurora introduces a refreshed visual style with a new layout and colour palette. Meanwhile, the Vita theme draws inspiration from Sony’s PlayStation Vita, the handheld that heavily influenced the RG Vita Pro’s overall design.

The new themes give users more freedom to personalise their devices and choose an interface that suits their preferences. Customisation remains a major selling point for retro gaming handhelds, and Anbernic appears eager to expand those options.

The RG Vita Pro has attracted attention because of its PS Vita-inspired design and dual-operating-system approach. Users can select Android for broader application support or Linux for a streamlined retro gaming experience.

Like several previous Anbernic updates, Linux V1.0.1 requires manual installation. Users must download the update package and copy it to a microSD card with a minimum capacity of 16GB.

The installation file is approximately 2.34GB in size and is available through Anbernic’s official download channels. Although the process involves several steps, manual updates remain common among retro handheld devices.

Many enthusiasts prefer this approach because it gives them greater control over software versions and system configurations. It also allows manufacturers to distribute updates without relying on over-the-air services.

The latest update suggests Anbernic remains committed to refining the RG Vita Pro and improving the user experience. The addition of new themes, emulator enhancements, and interface improvements provides meaningful upgrades for existing owners.

As competition in the retro handheld market continues to intensify, regular software support has become increasingly important. With Linux V1.0.1, Anbernic is showing that it intends to keep the RG Vita Pro competitive through ongoing updates and feature additions.
