Acer Unveils Gaming Laptop With Longer Battery Life

ultimateimp – Acer has officially started selling the Predator Helios Neo 16S powered by Intel’s new Panther Lake platform, bringing improved battery efficiency to its gaming laptop lineup. The 16-inch device is now available in France and features up to 32 GB of RAM, a 165 Hz OLED display, and Nvidia GeForce RTX graphics.

The launch marks the latest chapter for the Predator Helios Neo 16S, which has undergone several revisions this year. Acer first introduced Panther Lake-powered versions during CES 2026 in January. Two months later, the company announced alternative models equipped with Intel’s Arrow Lake-HX Plus processors.

Now, the Panther Lake variants have finally reached consumers. At present, Acer is selling the laptop through its French online store, although the device is listed as out of stock in the United Kingdom.

The company has not yet confirmed when the new models will become available in other markets. However, broader international availability is expected as Acer expands its Panther Lake lineup.

The Predator Helios Neo 16S uses Intel’s Core Ultra 9 386H processor and offers configurations with Nvidia’s GeForce RTX 5060 or RTX 5070 graphics cards. Buyers can also configure the laptop with up to 32 GB of RAM and choose a 165 Hz OLED display option.

A Predator Helios Neo 16S featuring the Core Ultra 9 275HX processor, GeForce RTX 5070 Ti, 32 GB of RAM, and a 2 TB SSD currently sells for €2,799. That model also includes a faster 240 Hz IPS display.

By comparison, Acer charges the same €2,799 for a Panther Lake variant equipped with a GeForce RTX 5060, 32 GB of RAM, a 1 TB SSD, and a 165 Hz OLED panel.

New Panther Lake Model Prioritises Battery Life Over Raw CPU Performance

A more powerful Panther Lake configuration is available for €2,899. This model combines the Core Ultra 9 386H processor with 32 GB of RAM, a 1 TB SSD, and an Nvidia GeForce RTX 5070 graphics card.

The RTX 5070 version comes with 8 GB of video memory and can operate at up to 115 watts. The laptop also retains the 165 Hz OLED display found in the lower-priced Panther Lake configuration.

Performance comparisons suggest the new architecture focuses more on efficiency than maximum processing power. Early benchmark results indicate the Panther Lake variants do not outperform the Arrow Lake-HX models in CPU-intensive tasks.

The Core Ultra 9 275HX, featured in previous Helios Neo 16S models, still delivers stronger processor performance in demanding workloads. As a result, buyers prioritising raw CPU power may find the older models more appealing.

However, Acer believes Panther Lake’s greatest advantage lies in energy efficiency. According to the company, the new processor architecture significantly improves battery life without sacrificing gaming capabilities.

Acer claims the Panther Lake-powered Predator Helios Neo 16S can deliver more than twice the battery life of the Arrow Lake-HX version. Both systems use the same 76 Wh battery, making the efficiency gains particularly notable.

The company estimates that the PHN16S-I51 model can achieve up to 15 hours of battery life under light workloads. Independent testing has not yet confirmed those figures, so real-world performance remains uncertain.

If Acer’s claims prove accurate, the new laptop could offer one of the best battery performances in its category. Gaming laptops have traditionally prioritised performance over endurance, making efficiency improvements increasingly important.

The Predator Helios Neo 16S continues Acer’s strategy of combining powerful hardware with premium display technology. The addition of Panther Lake introduces a new option for gamers seeking longer battery life and improved portability.
