Source Reveals Crease Size on Apple iPhone Fold

ultimateimp – Apple’s first foldable smartphone, widely rumored as the iPhone Fold, is expected to launch later this year according to new leak reports. The device would mark Apple’s entry into the foldable smartphone market, a category that has grown steadily in recent years. Industry observers believe the foldable iPhone could debut alongside the iPhone 18 Pro, while the standard iPhone 18 may arrive early next year.

Multiple leaks over the past months have provided insight into the possible design and specifications of the upcoming device. Reports suggest the foldable phone could feature a 5.5-inch external display used when the device is folded. When unfolded, the internal display may expand to approximately 7.8 inches.

This configuration would allow the device to function as both a traditional smartphone and a small tablet. Foldable designs typically aim to combine portability with larger screens for multitasking, productivity, and entertainment. Apple’s approach may focus on delivering a seamless transition between the two display modes.

Several reports suggest Apple has been working to minimize or eliminate the visible crease found on many foldable displays. Achieving a nearly crease-free screen has become one of the major engineering challenges for foldable smartphones.

New Leak Suggests iPhone Fold Will Feature a Barely Noticeable Display Crease

A new leak from the well-known source Fixed Focus Digital has revealed additional details about the foldable iPhone’s display. The information was shared through the Chinese social media platform Weibo. According to the leaker, Apple has already placed production orders for the device. The report indicates that the foldable iPhone remains on track for launch later this year. If accurate, this timeline would align with Apple’s traditional annual product release schedule.

One of the most notable details from the leak concerns the display crease created by the folding mechanism. According to the source, the crease thickness may measure less than 0.15 millimeters. This extremely small measurement could make the crease difficult to detect during normal use.

For comparison, the thickness of a human hair generally ranges between 0.017 and 0.18 millimeters. Based on that comparison, the crease on the foldable display would be similar to or thinner than many human hairs. This suggests users may barely notice the crease visually or when touching the screen.

The same leak also mentioned the hinge’s folding angle. The device reportedly uses a fold angle of approximately 2.5 degrees. This design detail may influence how smoothly the screen closes and how evenly the display folds during repeated use.

Foldable smartphones typically command premium prices due to their complex engineering and specialized components. For example, Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold series often sells close to two thousand dollars in many markets. Considering Apple’s positioning in the premium segment, the iPhone Fold could reach a similar price range.

Although Apple has not officially confirmed the foldable device, interest continues to grow as leaks emerge. If the reports prove accurate, the iPhone Fold could represent Apple’s first major step into the foldable smartphone category.
