ultimateimp – Asus has launched its first 14-inch gaming laptop powered by AMD’s Strix Halo platform in the United States. The TUF Gaming A14 FA401EA brings the new Ryzen AI Max+ 392 APU to North America.
The model was previously available in select international markets. Its US release expands access to AMD’s latest integrated graphics-focused platform.
The Ryzen AI Max+ 392 includes 12 Zen 5 CPU cores. It is a trimmed version of the higher-end Ryzen AI Max+ 395.
AMD has reduced clock speeds and L2 cache compared to the flagship chip. The processor features 12 MB of L2 cache instead of 16 MB.
However, the integrated Radeon 8060S GPU remains unchanged. It includes 40 compute units and a boost clock of up to 2,900 MHz.
Benchmark results show the Max+ 392 trails the Max+ 395 in multi-core workloads. The gap is around 25 percent in tests such as Cinebench 2024.
In gaming-focused benchmarks like 3DMark TimeSpy, the difference is smaller. This suggests the GPU performance remains largely unaffected.
The FA401EA can sustain around 100 watts under load in Turbo mode. In manual mode, it can reach a peak FPPT of 115 watts.
These power levels highlight the system’s ability to maintain consistent performance. Efficient thermal handling supports prolonged usage.
Radeon 8060S Achieves 80 FPS at 1600p with Strong Thermal Performance
Gaming performance is a key strength of the TUF Gaming A14 FA401EA. Tests show it can achieve around 80 frames per second in modern AAA titles.
These results are recorded at the laptop’s native 1600p resolution. The performance level is notable for an integrated graphics solution.
The Radeon 8060S benefits from 16 GB of assigned VRAM. This helps deliver stable frame rates in demanding gaming scenarios.
Thermal performance remains controlled during extended sessions. The system reaches temperatures of around 80 degrees Celsius under load.
Even at sustained 100-watt power draw, the laptop retains some thermal headroom. Asus’ default fan profile balances cooling and noise.
Compared to the earlier FA401WV model, the new version offers a clear GPU improvement. The upgrade enhances gaming capability without requiring a discrete GPU.
Another advantage is support for USB-C charging at 100 watts. The laptop may maintain usable performance even when not using a traditional power adapter.
