HMD Bold Details Surface Before Official India Debut

ultimateimp – HMD Global is preparing to launch a new budget smartphone for the Indian market called the HMD Bold. According to a recent leak, the device is expected to debut in the fourth quarter of the year. The source of the leak is X user HMD_MEME’s (@smashx_60), who shared key specifications and pricing details. The HMD Bold will feature a 6.74-inch IPS LCD display with HD+ resolution. It will support a 90Hz refresh rate, which is a welcome feature at this price point. Despite being a budget phone, the display is expected to offer a smooth user experience.

The Unisoc T7200 chipset will power the HMD Bold. This 12nm processor uses two Cortex-A75 cores and six Cortex-A55 cores, all running at 1.6GHz. A Mali G57 GPU, clocked at 650MHz, handles the graphics. Although the hardware isn’t high-end, it should handle everyday tasks with ease. For photography, HMD equips the Bold with a 50MP primary rear sensor. It pairs this with a basic 0.8MP secondary camera. An 8MP front camera takes care of selfies and video calls. This camera setup reflects the typical approach of entry-level smartphones that aim to balance cost and performance. HMD will offer the Bold in two configurations. One variant includes 4GB of RAM and 128GB of storage, while the other offers 6GB of RAM and 256GB of storage. These options cater to users who need more storage without increasing their budget significantly.

Battery Life, Pricing, and Competitive Landscape

The HMD Bold will come with a 5,000mAh battery, which is standard in this segment. It will support 20W wired charging. This capacity should offer users a full day of usage on a single charge with moderate use. Color options at launch will include Blue and Brown, appealing to users seeking basic but stylish choices. Pricing is expected to start at ₹7,999 (around $94 or €80) for the base model. The higher-end version with 6GB RAM and 256GB storage will retail for ₹9,999 (approximately $117 or €99). These prices make the HMD Bold one of the most affordable offerings from HMD Global to date.

Compared to the HMD Crest 5G, which is currently the company’s most affordable smartphone in India, the Bold stands out as a lower-cost 4G alternative. However, it will face tough competition in the budget market. Devices like the Redmi A5 4G, priced around ₹7,498, already offer strong value and are well-established in the market. The Q4 launch places the HMD Bold in a highly competitive time frame, just before the festive season in India. HMD Global appears to be aiming for price-sensitive users who prioritize storage and battery life over 5G connectivity or cutting-edge specs. As the official launch approaches, more details may emerge, including software support and after-sales service. If priced and marketed well, the HMD Bold could gain attention in India’s crowded budget smartphone segment.
